Akil
Akil is an Egyptian name that predestines its owner to be intelligent
It fits really well as far as this “classic D” is concerned. When I started its construction the brief was very clear. It must be beautiful, fast, accurate and placid. All this without extremely heavy middle full of fiberglass, added weights and other non natural materials. It sounds easy but the journey to the result wasn’t simple and straightforward. I have designed and tested about 10 different versions of a bow profile before I was satisfied. The result of my research and testing is a bow with a maximum possible reflexivity while keeping the D shape. The great reflexivity of limbs is possible due to their thinning at the ends. This reduced the weight of the limbs ends, which proved positively on the high arrow speed and a minimal handshock after the shot. Considering what I have tried and tested during the developing stages of Akil I dare say that it can’t be made much better with any top materials of today and that I managed to get to the very borderline between a D longbow and a hybrid bow.
The middle of the bow consists of hard domestic and exotic woods as Shedua, Zebrano, Jatoba, Ipe, Wenge, Ash, Maple and Walnut interspaced with thin color fiberglass reinforcement. The wood is pre-cut to segments, carefully selected and glued again. This enables higher toughness, stability and absorption capability of the middle part. I consider the design of the middle part that consists of hard woods and relatively small amount of thin fiberglass to be an ideal solution from the point of esthetics, bow properties and safety.
The limbs are made of the core of tapered bamboo and other light weight woods laminations and, depending on the design, fiberglass or carbon laminate. Single cross carbon (SCX) model has a carbon on backing and a transparent or black fiberglass on the belly. Double cross carbon (DCX) has both laminates of 100% carbon.
There is a veneer under the transparent fiberglass. It serves one main purpose to show and celebrate a natural beauty of the wood. The choice of the veneer and the wood type is down to personal preferences of each and every archer.
Every Akil bow is varnished with 5 layers of mat 2 PUR varnish. The bow can be customized with brass inserts UNC 10-24 for a bow quiver mount. The grip can be dressed in leather on request.
